JIHAD (Holy War?) Muslims believe that it is their duty to defend their faith and explain and spread it. Some Muslims (fundamentalists) interpret this to mean physically defend. This helps to explain some of the violence that takes place in Palestine and Israel, as well as acts of terror that occur around the world. Muslims are also expected to explain and spread their faith. Again, some Muslims (fundamentalists) feel that those who do not accept Islam should be punished and often times they take that punishment into their own hands.
DIETARY LAWS The Islamic dietary laws are very similar to the Jewish ones (Kashruth). Foods that are deemed acceptable for consumption are called HALAL, "permitted". Muslims do not eat pork or pork by-products, blood, alcohol, carcasses of dead animal, animals that have not been ritually slaughtered (Dhabiha).
USERY Usery is the charging of interest on loaned monies. Muslims believe that charity and almsgiving should take precedence here. Their belief is that both the debtor and creditor should take the risk and gain the profits together. This has caused concerns in western nations where banks are well established institutions based on giving loans and mortgages and turning profits based on the interest generated.
