TYPES OF MUSLIMS
Secularists -- are nominal Muslims with minimal knowledge of the Koran and little devotion to religious acts (Christmas Catholics).
Moderates -- know the Koran intimately, but seek to make their faith relevant to modern life and their home countries. They work towards peace and brotherhood with all. They will often try to spread and explain their faith, but not in a forceful way and never with the threat of punishment for non-believers.
Fundamentalists -- also know the Koran intimately and seek to spread and explain their faith. The key difference is that fundamentalists feel that those who do not accept Islam should be punished (some consider death and applicable punishment). This type of Muslim includes terrorists who perform acts of violence in the name of their faith and God. This is an extremely small percentage of Muslims (less than 1%). Most other Muslims distance themselves from these fundamentalists, essentially excommunicating them from the faith.
